K&S Car Wash knows even experienced drivers make mistakes while driving. It happens to the best of us. Sometimes we get distracted. Other times we make mistakes without realizing it. Here are a few tips and reminders to help decrease your chances of running into problems on the road!
The first rule is to slow down and follow the speed limit. For a new driver it is not easy to judge how fast you are going and how long it takes to stop. This skill is developed over the years and with experience in different driving situations. If you are not feeling comfortable with a certain speed while driving, regardless of whether you’ve been driving one month or twenty years, slow down. Drivers that are driving faster and passing you may be more experienced or not driving responsibly. Obey the speed, and slow down when you need to.
Never slow down in the passing lanes of a highway. The passing lane is the farthest left lane on the highway and is strictly for passing. Driving slowly in a passing lane can be dangerous and cause the cars behind you to tailgate. Tailgating can easily cause accidents if any driver has to stop suddenly.
Texting, changing the radio station, or eating can lead to an accident. Distractions take your eyes and attention off of the road. A driver must be able to scan the road for dangerous situations and catch them early. Drivers also need to be ready to make the correct action needed to avoid an accident. This is impossible for a driver to do when distracted by other activities.
Make Good Choices
Every time a driver is behind a wheel it is a risk, but making good choices can eliminate serious dangers. For example, when a light turns yellow, do not speed through it. If you do, you can avoid causing accidents at intersections. The yellow light means to slow down and prepare to stop for a red light. Other dangerous risks include speeding and driving after consuming alcohol. Communicating with other drivers is crucial, so use your turn signals when making all turns.
Don’t Drive When Tired
Sleep is needed to make good decisions, react quickly, and think clearly. Driving requires concentration and the ability to react and make good decisions. When you are drowsy you are at risk of falling asleep behind the wheel and causing an accident. It is best to allow someone else to drive or stop somewhere to rest before continuing to drive to your destination.
Wearing a seatbelt is a protection for you and your passengers. Whether you are driving alone or with others, K&S Car Wash encourages you to make sure everyone has buckled-up before starting the car. Seatbelts have prevented countless injuries. It only takes a second to buckle-up, so make it a habit. It could save your life and others who are traveling with you. No one is perfect. However, developing and following safe driving habits like these can help a new or experienced driver avoid accidents and injuries.
